Sholay is a hit movie of Ramesh Sippy. It was released in 1975. The story of the movie revolves around a village of Ramgarh. The coolness of ‘living on the edge’ is the basic spice of the movie. ‘Revenge’ and ‘friendship’ are two main essences of this movie.
Then there are gunfights, fighting, running on the roofs of the train, jumping on the horseback. Also there is the softness of life in village, peacefulness in the tune of harmonica and lamps lit by the village woman after dusk. Two male protagonist Jai and Veeru (Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra) ironically meet Thakur Saab (Sanjeev Kumar), retired jailer who later recruited them to take his revenge against Gabbar Singh, a dacoit. Amzad Khan played the role of bandit. Hema Malini played the role of Basanti, a village girl who earned her living by driving her ‘Tanga’, a three wheeled cart that is carried by a donkey. Jaya Bachchan played the role of widow daughter in law of Thakur Saab.
